Talk Back Thursday

Thank you so much to Caity, Lisa Laree, Donna Hodgson, Lindsay T, Summerset, Mamafitz and Christine for "talking back" to my Friday Confession last week! I confessed that I'm not well organized in my sewing room, and asked how others keep organized.

First, I am happy to know that I am not alone in feeling that I could be just a teeny bit more organized in my sewing room. ;)

At the same time, I was very happy to pick up some organizational tips from other sewers. Donna, Summerset and Mamafitz, in particular, described their organizational schemes in some detail. All of them mentioned using thread racks and sorting their threads - at least by color, if not also by type (cotton, polyestor, etc.). Summerset also sorts and stores her fabric by color.

They all also described using assorted bins, binders, rolling carts with drawers or shelves, and those boxes with dozens of little drawers - originally sold in hardware stores for nails and screws, but now sold (in pretty colors) to crafters (for twice as much, I'm sure...)

Donna uses a peg board and hanging ruler holder to store many of her notions, and Mamafitz is planning to get a magnetic board to hang her scissors.

Mamafitz sorts her patterns by clothing type, stores them individually in large brown envelopes. She annotates each envelope with notes about her experiences with that pattern - what size was cut, any alterations that were made, etc. I can really see the value in doing this!

Finally, while surfing the internet, I came across this "Sewing Room Organizational Challenge" on The Domestic Diva website (see right sidebar). If you are interested in even more ideas for organization, check it out. :)

Thanks again to everyone who took the time to respond! You've given me a lot of good ideas - as usual! - and I'm going to make a real effort to get more organized. :)
