And it's all because of Club BMV...
What am I talking about? My shopping habits and sales. Prior to receiving my gift membership to Club BMV for my birthday (thanks, Natalie!) I only went shopping when I had an idea for something in particular that I wanted to buy. You know, like "Oh, my Mom's birthday is coming up, maybe I'll sew something for her" or "I'd really love a new summer sun dress" etc.
Then, when I went to the store, if there was a sale on, that was great, and if there wasn't, no big deal...
What I NEVER did was learn about a sale and then go to the store to see if I could find anything that appealed to me simply because of that sale.
But, now, as a member of Club BMV, I get emails alerting me to special deals on Butterick, McCalls and Vogue patterns - for members only! - and next thing you know, I'm browsing the web sites and ordering patterns... Yikes! Something tells me that this is going to wreck havoc with my budget!
Good thing I don't keep one! ;)
So, how about you? Do you pay any attention to sales? Do you find something you want and then wait for a sale before buying it? Does the announcement of a sale lead you into the temptation of shopping and buying stuff that you hadn't already known you wanted or needed? And how do I stop?!?!? ;)

Are you kidding me? Instead of a fabric stash I have a pattern stash. I can't resist especially when Joanne's has a sale. I buy patterns I don't even need! And sometimes I just buy them because I kind of like them, and think they may be discontinued. To my credit I have never paid full price for a pattern......LOL!
like eileen, i am all about the pattern sales. they bring me in the store and if there is something else that i see while there then i will get it. in fact i was going to the store today for a vogue pattern sale, but the rain is keeping me in. :)
Your welcome ;)

It's very difficult for me to resist sales, though I work very hard at making sure I buy things that I am VERY sure I will end up making.
Yes, I am swayed by sales but right now I am on an austerity diet of no more patterns, no more fabric till I make a dent in my stash.
It depends on the item and how soon I need it. I try to buy only what I need in the first place, but will wait for a sale on notions and fabric. I rarely buy Big 4 patterns, so I ignore those sales, unless I need one for my daughter or unless it is an unusual Vogue like the Ralph Rucci ones that I buy "just to have". Vintage patterns are another story altogether. I buy those when I want to or have the money as some I may never see again.
At one time I did not pay attention to the sales. Over the past couple of years I started paying attention. I have around...gulp...800-900 patterns. I HAVE to pay attention to the sales. ;o)
Patterns - those Club BMV sales are hard to resist! Especially when you consider the prices we normally pay in Australia - no 99 cent pattern sales here, EVER!
I will admit to coveting most Vintage Vogue patterns, but I must curb my spending...
Stop???
Is that possible?
LOL
I used to be a buy-for-the-next-project person, too, but as fabric became harder to go out and buy as needed and internet sources...some with really good prices...became available, the stash ballooned. And if I can get a pattern for a couple of bucks on sale, I might buy it because it has a detail I like and would consider using at some future point. If there were no pattern sales my stash would be considerably smaller; I'd only buy patterns I loved.
Even so, there is a limit to both finances and storage, so I've applied the brakes and managed to slow down a bit of late...but... stop?
I have gotten better with not buying patterns, but I still can't resist the $3.99 Vogue sales at Joanne's. I just purchased the Ralph Rucci pattern at the last sale. I will probably never make, but I felt like I had to have it!
