Friday Confession

Last week's discussion about sewing footwear (slippers, etc.) inspired Gwen to ask about gloves. Personally, I've never sewn (or even thought about sewing) gloves or mittens. But I did just find this cool photo tutorial on sewing gloves.

So, how about you? Anybody tried gloves? If so, I'd love to hear about it! If not, do you think you might someday?

I've thought about knitting or crocheting gloves or mittens, but not sewing them. Looks interesting.

I made some fingerless gloves out of scrap fleece once (more handwarmers than gloves, really.) Which turned out VERY fitted and hard to get on and off. I may be tempted to try sewing gloves at some point, because my hands get very cold very easily, especially this time of year. But I'm trying to pick up knitting so I have a more portable craft, and if that ends up taking off, I'd be more likely to try knit gloves than sewn ones. (Especially because I already found a knitting book that has all these amazing gloves and handwarmers that I'm in love with!)

i've never sewn gloves, though i think i do have a vogue pattern somewhere here for them.

i have knitted many fingerless gloves (the pattern is called knucks, my kids love them:

I've made mittens for kids, but not gloves.

I think I have that same Vogue pattern that mamafitz has... but I've never tried them.

My huge hands would probably never fit in them. :(

I've knitted mittens and fingerless mitts. I've never made gloves, although I do have a really nice vintage Vogue pattern from the 50's if I ever get around to making gloves! I'd like to try it, but other things keep moving to the top of the list.

I have two Vogue patterns, and the pattern that appeared in Threads to make gloves. I'd love to learn to make them, and then have fun embelishing them.

When I worked in a fabric store years ago, Simplicity came out with a glove pattern and I made about 6 pair for display (=free). My daughter now uses them for dress-up. About three years ago I got the pattern out again and made three more pair out of a rayon and wool jersey. They're sort of tedious but not really time consuming. And, as much as I love trying them on with an outfit I've never worn them in public!

Not a chance.

I have small hands I can buy vintage gloves and have them fit. I already have a cheap source of gloves for any occasion I want, so I don't need to.
