Serger Thread
I have a huge selection of sewing machine thread in many different colors, but I use white thread in my serger for almost everything - partly because re-threading the serger is such a pain, and partly because serger thread is relatively expensive (especially having to buy 3 spools) and comes in such a large quantity (per spool) that I can't imagine actually going through 3 spools of any particular color...
How about you? Do you have a huge collection of different colored serger thread? Or do you stick with the basics of white and black?

I'm still pretty new to the whole serger thing, so right now I'm just using up all of my mom's old serger thread! Which means I've been mostly switching between black and white, but for the grey top I made recently, I had a combination of grey and greyish blues because there wasn't four of the same thing.
I have a wide range of colors and change accordingly. I do tend to try to sew in color groups, that helps the thread changes. Right now I am in my white mode.
I have all the basics, black, red, white, and cream. I found a store that sales serger thread for $2 a spool
I use thread to match the project. That means I have quite a bit of thread. I also use regular size spools with my serger so that I can get a pretty close match to the project - this is important to me for my alterations customers. Besides, the OCD in me has to have matching thread!
I have - black, cream, navy, brown burgundy, teal and some wooly nylon in different colours.
These are the colours that blend most with the colour of clothes I make. I don't have white.
I don't find it hard to change colours either - plenty of practice!
Um,yeah. I'm finally getting a dedicated sewing room and I've been buying all sorts of stuff to organize my threads etc. Last count I had about 46 spools of serger thread! And yes, I use it all at some point or other. But I've had a serger for almost 20 years.

I'm sort of middle of the road on the serger thread - I have a lot of basic colors (black, white, tan & 'denim orange'), but also have a few others like pink, green, etc. for other projects. I tend to use a lot of white and black, mostly because I don't like having to switch threads! LOL
You mean your supposed to actually *use* your serger???? ;o) I have white, black, off white, navy & grey. I may also have turquoise since I have a lot of fabric that color. I don't have any space left to stockpile thread spools. I think I'll just stick with the basics, unless I really need a specific color.
I don't know if it's cheating or just a confession... my serger (and sewing machine) have lots of dust (and cat hair) on them. :(
I do have several colors for my serger though. First, I got 4 "primaries" - the red, yellow, blue, and green set for getting to know my new machine. After doing just about all the stitches my serger produces, I got a couple different colors for anticipated projects (which are still on the wish list), in addition to both a set of white spools and a set of black spools. I should take an inventory to see how many colors I have... :)
Hi Gwen,
I have navy, white, ivory and gray. I use mostly the gray for the same reason you use the white.
Thanks for stopping by my blog and saying hello. Take care!
