Friday Confession

I am considering doing something a bit crazy...  ("Not for the first time", her husband grumbles affectionately...)

I'm considering buying a die cut machine (of some sort) to cut felt decorations for my fabric doll houses...

What do you think?  Major overkill, right?  Does anyone out there have one?  Any advice for me?  (BTW, "Back away from the BUY NOW button" counts as advice!)

Unless you plan on doing these for sale long term, then the cost is going to be too much...and you'll be stuck to what they offer instead of your own creativity.

Weigh the cost vs. what you will do and your own needs before you buy.

Is this going to be like other things you get that you never use like another confession with feet? Or is this something you will use frequently?

I'd walk away, and I make a lot of things with ducks and flowers on them, but I'm too lazy and cheap to do anything other then cut them out by template. And I can choose my size not stuck to theirs.

My daughter has a Silhouette and it is fabulous. I am considering buying one for myself. If you go to silhouetteamerica.com, you can see their machine. And, if you click on "blog" on the right hand side of the home page, there are pages and pages of really cool things you can do with the machine. Not that expensive.

Before you buy, you should definitely consider if there are other ways you can use it--i.e. do you have any interest in papercrafting, is there a way you could use it to cut out squares or rectangles for patchwork sewing projects, etc. For a tool that big that would take up valuable storage space, I'd definitely want to make sure I'd get my money's worth out of it. (Saying that, I do own a Silhouette SD, and I specifically chose that one because of the digital download designs and the fact that it can cut from any TrueType font, which I liked that idea since it meant lotsa free stuff. That also being said, I really need to actually work on my scrapbooks again so that buying it wasn't a waste.

Simply because you said '"Back away from the BUY NOW button" counts as advice!' tells me something. What does it tell you!?

She who dies with the most sewing equipment wins!

At least that is my theory. And I have bought things just because it was interesting and they gave me a good deal on it. I find they don't get used too much but I enjoy having them around. Lately I have been on a downsizing mission and one of them has to go. Sigh! I won't recoup what I have in it.

So one side of me says got for it! The other side says it is cheaper to rotary cut the pieces for the doll houses.

I have a cricut and love it. I don't use it a lot, but when I want to cut fabric shapes or letters... its there, when I want to make quick tags for clothing that I've made its there. When I am in the move for cardmaking.. its there, when I want to do glass etching... it there.

I use SCAL with my cricut, which keeps me from having to buy various cartridges.
