I recently got this DVD in the mail from the publisher of Sew News. I didn't order it - it's one of those promotions - if you like it, send us money and we'll keep sending you more every few months. Keep only the ones you like and return the rest (remember those late night Time Life infomercials?).
Anyways, it occurred to me that I don't actually have any sewing DVDs and I haven't ever watched any... Up until now, I have just relied on books - and that's kind of odd, because sewing is a process and so ideally suited to a "show" format...
So, do you watch sewing DVDs? Do you have a library of them? Any particular ones you recommend? Any ones you don't recommend? I'm really looking forward to reading everyone's advice on this one! :)

I used to watch Sewing With Nancy on public TV, Nancy Zieman. So I bought several video tape recordings of her past shows on Ebay. I like them.
When I attended the Original Sewing & Quilt Expo in Atlanta two years ago, I took the Easy Zipper class with Mickey Hudson-Sandoval. The class was a demo class not hands on but she sold the Islander Sewing System DVD Easy Zippers. I've been hooked on sewing DVDs every since. I have DVDs from Peggy Sagers of Silhouette Patterns, Cynthia Guffey, and Palmer/Pletsch. It's so easy to put in the DVD and follow along. You Tube is another source of video instruction that I use a lot although, DVDs usually are more in depth.
I watched Sewing with Nancy twice when I was a teenager getting into sewing, then never have watched another thing.
Most of them are geared toward a type of sewing I don't like, and I am not a fan of the arts and crafts crap that they feature. Nothing is in them I can't get from a book.
Now, if Project Runway counts, then yes. I watch ALL of them, even the ones not in English.
I use DVDs a lot since I don't have a sewing teacher nearby. I'm a visual person so books are not as helpful. I expecially like Sandra Betzina's Power Sewing Skill Series. I've also used Peggy Sager and Palmer/Pletch.
I've only watched one DVD that came with one of my sewing machines. I actually use it (the content) to teach my sewing machine class. But besides that I've never watched sewing DVD. Now YouTube is a different story. I watch a lot of vids on there. And anytime I'm flipping through the tv and come across a sewing show I'm always going to stop in it. There isn't much I haven't done as far as sewing in all my years. I've pretty much done it all... not always perfect but I don't look for perfection because.. I'M NOT PERFECT! LOL

I don't have a real dvd library, but I do have a few. The ones I've watch have been a real help to me. Palmer/Pletsch Jackets for Real People helped me with welt pockets, and was a humongous help with bound buttonholes and introductory jacket tailoring. It's been well worth the money I spent for it. Threads Fitting DVD series has been a big help too. Roberta Carr's Couture Sewing - the fashions are outdated, however the information is priceless, learned the Spanish Snap buttonhole from this one.
I guess you can say I REALLY LOVE SEWING DVD'S. Can't wait to add others. I can rewind and play the part I need over and over again until I master the technique.
Yeah, I might have a couple of sewing DVDs, but honey, I've got TAPES! Yeah, VHS Tapes of Nancy Zieman, Sandra Betzina, Roberta Carr, Gale Grigg Hazen, and others. Not that I've pulled them out and actually looked at them lately, but hey ...
I have a Nancy Zieman tape or two, "Conttructing the Princess Seamed Blazer" by Kathleen Cheetham & Vija Anca, and the THREADS archive. Although I have nearly all of the THREADS magazines, I look things up in the DVD all the time, often just to brouse. I can now box up my magazines and store them and keep them safe.
I have never watched a sewing DVD. I'm not sure that I would have the patience to sit and watch one. I love my books though.
I have the Threads Archive which is helpful for searching and decluttering your filing system. My favorite currently though is Couture Techniques Workshop, Basics with Claire Shaeffer. It's pure inspiration.
I love watching sewing DVDs. My favorite are the instructional ones. I also like watching sewing tutorials on u-tube.
I have tons of DVDs that I am slowing working through. I love the Palmer/Pletsch Pants for Real People (both the fitting and sewing DVDs). Claire Shaeffer's Couture Basics--gem. Connie Crawford DVDs (I've watched 3) are of poor production quality and it seriously distracts you from learning anything. I just received a few Kenneth King DVDs but haven't watched them yet. I rely heavily on books but the DVD helps with the more difficult topics.
nope, i don't have any dvds (or tapes). i know i'm in the minority in that i don't even have very many books either.
