Friday Confession

So, I haven't gotten into the sewing room for a while... :(

I've got a ton of projects in there waiting for me - some for myself and some for others - and some for others that I should have finished months ago! For a while, I've been telling myself that there'll be no buying of new projects until I make a big dent in my existing projects...

But recently I slipped and bought 2 new patterns (for myself) - and then I used a Joann's gift certificate to buy some fabric for those patterns - and suddenly I find myself motivated again. Just using 10 minutes here and 15 minutes there, I've printed and assembled and cut the fabric for BOTH patterns! And I'm excited about getting into my sewing room to make them both!

It seems like I needed something new to get me going again...

So, how about you? When you are busy and tired and somehow just aren't finding (or making) the time to get into your sewing room, is there something in particular that gives you the kick-in-the-butt that you need to get back in there? A special type of project? Sewing for yourself or someone else? A deadline? A TNT or a stretch goal? Or does this never happen to you?

Oh it happens to me alright and when it does I search and search for inspiration until something finally gets me moving.

Sometimes the mojo comes back on its own, sometimes I guilt myself into it, and sometimes it comes back with great pleasure and desire. Every time it is different.

My sewing mojo is spurred during the various sewing clubs I attend. Always, there is something that someone shows that inspires me.

I decided to start a 6PAC and organize my fabric to spurn some creativity with what I have... I made some necklaces last night, and I'm thinking of some quick things which, I am hoping, will be worth their weight in gold for spawning some mojo. Everything's pulled out and waiting to be organized as we speak... Hoping for some solid time this afternoon.
I think it'll just take finishing and wearing something for me to remember how much I love it. That's the hope!
oh... and getting drafting was kind of a kick start too!

Oh, boy! I have a sporadic sewist. My big problem is a long list of items to make, and people to make them for. I have some patterns to adjust, bins and bins of fabric, all the notions I need, thread galore, plenty of patterns and can't figure out where to start, so I have screeched to a halt. I know that a completed item every few days or so would really make a dent; it is just "where do I start!"

This is not the answer anyone wants to hear, but when I am a shamozzle of projects and frustrated that i can't get enough done....I tidy the sewing room. I don't have much space and it gets cluttered easily. If it is all clear, then the sewing is easy.

I don't have much of a problem getting motivated to sew something but I do have a problem getting things done. I have two projects that I want the right buttons for and I am having problems getting them. Both projects are at a stand still. There is work I can do on them while I wait but I have simply moved on. I have to force myself to finish the current projects and not start anything else until then.

Honestly, I don't often lose my motivation to sew. Other crafts, yes, but not usually sewing. Though I am having a little bit of a mojo loss at the moment due to a project I was super-excited about that ended up not working out as well as I'd hoped. (It's done, but after its debut wearing yesterday, I learned it needs some tweaking to make it more wearable.) So what I've been doing is giving myself permission to not sew for a few days and been doing things like knitting and reading instead. If I force it when I'm not feeling it, I make more mistakes and get more frustrated, so I'd rather do it when I'm excited about it.

Sewing is life for me. Whenever I get down, just sitting with my Florida used sewing machines just brings me the calm serenity that I need. So, I have to usually force myself NOT to sew sometimes. Otherwise I wouldn't accomplish anything else and would feel guilty guilty guilty by the end of the day!
