In the Queue Wednesday

I know, I know, I know... I'm not supposed to be taking on any new projects until I make a very large dent in my stashed projects. ;)

But 2 of Ana's young friends are being baptized later this summer, and she kind of signed us up to make a dress for Carolyn and a shirt for Brandon. So, on Monday we took the kids shopping and let them pick out patterns & fabric.

Carolyn picked the pattern shown above - Butterick 4385. She wants the short version of the dress and the short sleeved bolero style jacket. Of course, it has to be in white. But she expressed her personal fashion style by selecting a glittery tulle overlay for the dress and a white lace overlay for the jacket. ;)

Her body measurements didn't fit into any one size perfectly, so I decided we should make a muslin first. Ana and I got the pattern pieces cut out of a cotton eyelet remnant I had in my stash - she's going to try to baste the pieces together in time for a fitting next weekend.

I think this will be a good experience for Ana - it will give her some insight as to what it might be like to sew special occasion dresses for clients, if she decides to go that route someday.

I'll have pictures as we make progress on that. I'm not sure how time critical it is, as we don't have the exact date of the ceremony, but don't worry - we'll get to it! It's in the queue... :)
