Friday Confession

This is just the dumbest thing - but do you know the one little thing that I routinely need, but don't have in my sewing room?

Yup - a small ironing board for ironing sleeves and other narrow tubes...

Why don't I have one? I don't know! They aren't expensive. My local Joann's has them in stock. There's no good reason. I just never got around to buying one...

How about you? Is there some dumb little thing that you know you should have in your sewing room, something that you regularly wish that you did have, but something that you just never got around to buying?

I often wish I had one of those point turners that you can just iron on top of, like the ones made of wood or bamboo. I didn't even know I needed one, until I received a plastic one as part of a prize from a BurdaStyle contest, and saw how much easier it made turning the points out. But it's so hard to iron the seams without them rolling to one side.

Those sleeve boards are great-- I finally got one last year, and use it all the time now.

i love my sleeve board! i have the exact one you have pictured, and i just used it this morning to press open some seams on the really l-o-n-g ties for the HP wong-singh-jones kimono wrap dress.

i don't have a clapper. i want one, but never think of it until i actually need it.

i also keep thinking about a coverstitch machine... :)

Well, just like you a little ironing board would be really handy. :) A rubbish bin would be good too - how dumb is that?

Unfortunately I have a weakness for anything sewing related and have most everything needed for the type sewing I do! What I would like though is a larger ham and a ham holder.

Next time Joann's has their 1/2 price notions wall treat yourself to a sleeve board. All the pressing aids are included in that sale. Less that $10 that way!

I keep a running list of sewing items that I need. I started this list when I was in the middle of the project and ran out of...wait for it ...black thread. Next on my list is the Brother 2340CV coverstitch machine ::woot::

A point turner and a seam guage... oh, and bias makers... A sleeve board isn't a bad idea either. I think what I need though, is a way to organize all of my sewing things to make them more accessible.
And there are other things that I've made the conscious choice not to have here for the same space reasons- a good chunk of my fabric, my dressform, my serger and tailor's hams and a sleeve board are all things I do without because of my teeny apartment!

Boy It's been a few weeks, I miss you!
HEY, you can get one of those boards a lot less $ at Target or the place I don't like to shop walmart. I use my little guy all the time for small things.

I'm with Debbie, a ham older would be nice. I need another dress form too since one of my stands broke. Its fun to wait for JoAnn notion wall to go on sale and walk down to pick up all our implements of sewing construction 50% off.

Hugs filled with lots of Love!
Happy Holiday!

For at least 16 years I was using a thin flexible drafter's ruler to maintain my straight line with the rotary cutter instead of an actual thick quilting ruler. Everytime i'd slice into the ruler with my blade, i'd have to replace it, but i'd just go out and buy another of the wrong ruler instead of spending the extra $2 on one that wouldn't get knicked. I've finally fixed that problem.
I have two of those little ironing boards, because immediately after spending a birthday gift card on one and a ham, I ended up with my Nana's old set. Sadly, I had lost the reciept and couldn't return the new ones.

It's not little, but I seriously need a dress form. I keep putting off getting one because I was always between sizes on them, and I'll put it off until the baby is born now...but need. Yes, yes I do.

Mostly tho, I always seem to need a hem gauge. I have a ton of them, but they are bent, broken and/or missing the slider piece. A buttonhole gauge is also one of the things I really SHOULD have, but don't.

Sadly, right now there's no reason I don't have any of them. My fiancé wouldn't care if I ordered them, and it's not like he doesn't make enough NOT to get them...just one of those things it's in MY queue...someday.
