Friday Confession

I finally went and had a professional fitting for a bra. I've known forever that I needed to do this. The thing that pushed me over the top was making this dress. The bodice doesn't fit well and I decided to try to adjust the pattern to fit - which is going to be a challenge for me as I haven't done anything like this before. So, I decided that I had better be wearing a well-fitting bra before I go to all the effort of doing a pattern adjustment. ;)

It turns out that I wasn't too far off when I went bra shopping on my own - I had the circumference measurement correct, but I was wearing too small of a cup size. I have to say, the girls do look better in my new bra! ;)

So, how about you? Have you ever been professionally fit? If so, did it make a difference? If not, is it something you want to do someday, or do you feel comfortable that you have worked out the right size for yourself?

Yes, I have. I bought two bras from the shop. Both fit perfectly in the store. After wearing each for a day, one fit perfectly and the other not so much. I would suggest when you buy bras keep the receipt because the bra might feel great in the store but wearing it all day is another story. I'm very interested in bra sewing now. Spending $$$ for a single bra doesn't sit well with me :0

I went to have a professional fitting because after 4 kids I was not the same size as before. I couldn't believe I was wearing a bra 3 cup sizes too small and 2 inches too small around. I knew I needed to go up in size but that was a BIG jump. I love one of the new bras I got. It looks soooo much better. The other looked and felt good in the store but looks awful now. Who knows what happened.

I got professionally fitted awhile ago, convinced that I needed a smaller size. But as it turns out, I was already wearing the right size, I just had to learn to stop putting my bras in the dryer - the heat was killing the elastic and making them stretch out! I do think expensive bras are worth it... love my Wacoals.

I got fitted professionally after I lost 15kg (33lbs) so I ended up with a 34H after being a 42D for years! I'm hoping to eventually be less than a H cup LOL.

I've only been fitted professionally once, and that was when I was 14 or so and barely had enough to measure.

About a year ago, I did my own bra-fitting. I worked one brand at a time, pulling several different sizes, and found what fit best in that brand. After a while I had a stack of best-fits, and narrowed it all down to two. I have enough of these to get by, and probably should buy a couple more of one type.

i've never been professionally fitted, but i have fit quite a few people. :) i used to work at victoria's secret, and got pretty good at fitting bras. my experience was most women were wearing too small of a cup.

i'm pretty sure about the size i wear (34DD, and i swear, it never matters how in shape i get or how much weight i lose or that i've not been nursing for almost 2 years the damn cup size never changes!), though i know i need new bras, mine are all stretched out. it's hard to find one i like, and i prefer seamless and molded cups, so making them isn't really appealing (though i have done it).

I got a professional fitting when I was getting a bustier for my wedding dress, and it made a world of a difference. I was totally wearing 2-3 cup sizes too small... no wonder I hated wearing bras. (I still hate wearing them, but they're now much more comfortable.) :)

I have to be since I am busty and a weird size to boot. I buy a year's worth of bras at a time, and therefore I get fitted annually.

Does it make a difference? Mostly to my shoulders.

Thing is, it is mandatory for those in the larger cup sizes to have this done every time with every manufacturer since there is no industry standard in them. I was fitted as an H in Vic Secret (no offense to those that like them, but they are NOT for me at all), an E in Hanes, a DD in Stella McCartney and a F in even others. My around measurement can vary in some cases, too on these. (And this is why I get sized every time: none of the numbers are the same at any two places).

Busty gals can find that European bras are a little more standard then here in the US, since they tend to have a lower tolerance for cup sizes, and can make a lot of difference to the wearer.

LOL! This is why I do it every time. Of course, it's not cheap getting the girls covered, so I might as well. And I apologize for the TMI.

I had my first ever professional fitting in February. She sized my band down 2 sizes and the cup up 4 sizes. I couldn't believe it - but I can now wear a bra all day without fiddling with it. I also know when to adjust the straps and the hooks to keep the comfort and support just what they should be. When they need replacing, I'll get resized just to make sure.

I get fit every time I go to the store (usually about once a year). I'm an odd size that isn't carried much in stores, so I prefer to let the clerk dig through everything for the three they might have that fit me, rather then do it myself. If I need bras more often then that, I buy online and return the ones that don't fit perfectly.
I think the funny part about this is that I get fit for bras so often that I don't actually need the professional help anymore, but I still let them measure me every time. My actual size hasn't changed much in at least 8 years, even with pregnancy and breast feeding, and when it did, I knew right away where I needed bigger sizes.

I have had a few professional fittings, but like many people my cup size has changed over the years. I also make some of my own bras (I buy the seamless molded cup styles because those are done in a factory by machine - you can't do that at home), so I know how a bra should fit and I know what doesn't fit me. Yes, it does make a difference in how you look, and feel and how you clothes fit.

How do you find a good place to get a fitting? I live in the Bay Area in California. I've never been happy with Victoria Secret fittings.
