Friday Confession

Remember those UNICEF trick-or-treat boxes we used to take around on Halloween when we were kids? Do they still do that anywhere? We certainly haven't had any kids come to our house with these boxes in the 23 years that we've been in Florida...

Speaking of charity, today's confession/question is about charitable sewing. I have done a little bit. I made 50 flannel pillowcases for an organization that takes gift baskets to children in the hospital. That project was a lot of fun! When else do you get an excuse to buy 50 different adorable flannel prints? And the pillowcases sewed up so quickly and easily.

I have also started sewing for "Sew Much Comfort", an organization that makes special clothing for vets - clothing that has velcro closures along a side for ease in putting on and taking off over casts and braces, etc. But I am woefully behind in sewing for them. I have a stack of flannel plaids sitting in my sewing room waiting to be turned into pajama bottoms... :(

Hmmm... Now that I think of it, seems like all of my charitable sewing has revolved around flannel... That's kind of odd, isn't it? ;)

So, how about you? Do you, or have you done, charitable sewing? If so, I'd love to hear about your causes and your projects! :)

Oh yes I have. Every sewing organization I've ever belonged to does a charity sewing at leasst once a year. Baby quilts for hospitals and Ronald McDonald house, Onesies and blankets for Compassion Pregnancy, Feely-Touchy blankets for blind children, bibs for nursing homes, wheelchair caddies for Vets just to name a few.

I haven't. I think I'll make sewing for charity one of my sewing goals for next year.

We UNICEFed this year :) my daughter loved doing it.

I'm always giving things or time away. I've donated a lot of sewing classes to people or gave them scholarships. I've never given away my sewing items though. I want to sew for the Vets. I read all the time about a lot of people doing it but never have. Would be a nice added touch to a care package. (just wish we didn't have to send care packages - I want our kids home)

Enjoy your sewing moments!

I've made blankets for Project Linus and dolls for Craft Hope. I hope to do more with both groups in the coming year too.

I haven't done much charity sewing yet. I have made some skirts for a 100 skirt project and a blanket for the local hospital. I have fabric for a few more blankets stacked and ready to sew but they keep being put on the back burner. I will be helping a team at my church make some tissue holders for a local camp. So, I have plans for it but not many results yet.
