Friday Confession

Welcome to 2009! The start of a new year is the traditional time to reflect on the past year and plan for the new. Several bloggers have already posted interesting and impressive summaries of their efforts in 2008 and lists of their goals for 2009. So, I'm a little ashamed to admit that I don't have any sewing resolutions for 2009.

In general, of course, I expect to keep sewing and I hope to get better.

But I haven't set any specific goals, like learn how to do x or sew my first y...

And I do know that specific goals are much more likely to be accomplished than vague aspirations. So I'm thinking that maybe I should... :(

I guess I'm not really a New Year's Resolutions kind of person, and they often feel more like burdens to me than inspirations.

How about you? Do you set goals for yourself and your sewing each year? Do they inspire you? What are you hoping to accomplish in 2009?

In my craft (writing), I like to think I'll be open to possiblity in 2009, trying new directions.

I have been a little disappointed with my sewing efforts lately, both quality and quantity, and feeling a bit ashamed of my sewing so I won't make any specific goals. So many other people seem to whip out a jacket or a skirt in a day or two, and I just can't seem to do that. I think part of the reason is that I am a perfectionist, and as a beginner sewer perfection is mighty hard to achieve. But, I'm going to persevere. Maybe one day I'll sew as well as you. I do pray that 2009 will be your best year yet. You are such an inspiration and I always look forward to reading about what you are doing!

Happy New Year Gwen!
I do plan to set some goals, I just haven't done it yet... The reason? I learned at Thanksgiving that my sister in law is getting married in March. I always make a quilt. I had one already cut out - that's the good part. The bad part? It has over 5000 pieces. Just call me crazy(at least I am feeling that way right now). I am setting strict deadlines for every part and hoping my sewing business doesn't get too busy for a couple of months - that's why I already have five jobs sitting downstairs to ring in the new year, right? I hope to post this weekend about my post-quilt goals.

yes, i always set some goals, but this year i don't think i'm going to post about them. at least not yet. i failed pretty bad this last year, life just got away from me and i lost my mojo. my goals usually are more of a general thing (like i won't say "i'm going to make a tailored jacket", but i will say "i will make some classic or more dressy clothes").

I'm not really a resolution person, at least in my non-crafting life. I did make a couple of crafting goals for this year, but I think of them as more flexible goals than resolutions. If I get to them, great, but I'm not going to beat myself up if I don't, because I'm generally a go-with-the-flow sort of crafter. Working on whatever inspires me most at the moment. (Though I really, really hope I can stick to my goal of learning to make jeans that fit this year, because I had the same goal last year, didn't get to it, and now I need the jeans badly!!)

I am not a resolutions person - but then I haven't even heard of "a New Year's resolution" until I came to the US. I feel that if I am going to make changes in my life, I should make them if and when I feel the need, not based on dates. I end up setting goals for some of my exercise classes around the New Year, but this has a different reason. All classes I take have a Christmas break for 3-4 weeks, so it's a natural time for me to re-assess how things are going, and think if I want any changes. Doesn't necessarily sound like it would work the same for crafts, especially if you are doing a lot of presents at this time ;-)

I don't do resolutions, but I do have goals. I don't kill myself trying to meet them either. If I accomplish some of them great, if not, there's always next year. I prefer to sew as I'm inspired or the need arises, so I don't like getting hemmed into doing "x" or "y" just because I made a resolution.

I don't do either to be honest. I get it done or I don't. I do need a new machine which is going to come about in 2009, but it's necessity not a resolution/goal.

Happy New Year!
