Friday Confession

Parallel or Serial?

I am a serial sewer. One project at a time. I may have many projects in the queue - pattern & fabric purchased, fabric washed - but I am only actually sewing on one project at any given time. I don't start a new one until my current one is finished.

How about you? Do you sew one thing, from start to finish, at a time? Or do you have multiple projects going, at various stages of completion, all the time?

PS - I notice that I am close to my 100th post! In honor of that milestone, I have decided to have my first give-away. I tried to come up with something special - stay tuned next week to see what I have planned... ;)

I cut a queue, then sew it by thread color...I prefer to cut several things out at once, then (in theory, anyway) fold the cutting table up and sew what I've cut. Sometimes it's one garment at a time but if I have similar garments that need the same color of thread I have been known to sew them at the same time.

Kinda depends on how much time I've got...

Mostly serial but lately parallel just to keep the bottleneck of projects from growing. Then I'm definitely back to serial because I feel saner that way.

I'd have to say I'm serial. Although I am working on my mom's bag and the penguin costumes at the same time right now. Well I guess actually not really, since I've put the penguin project on hold until the bag is finished I'm technically only working on the one project.

Serial! It stressed me out when I have multiple projects in different stages. That, and I just don't have room for different stages.

LOL. Parallel!!!! I *always* have more than one project going, usually three or four. Right now, I have four projects going: REC, a new art garment, the Prada inspired suit (2 pieces actually) and my Great Coat Sew Along coat. When I get down to only one or two, I feel a bit lost, like I know I should be doing something and my studio seems a bit empty without stuff for each project cluttering the space in their own respective bins or piles. That also does not account for the projects I'm currently percolating in my head.

I am a one project at a time person. But at the moment it is no projects! Better fix that!

I am a serial sewer. Usually one project cut out and then completed. I do look at the thread on my serger to determine my next project.

Oh, I'm a serial offender! 90% of my projects never make it past the "bought pattern and possibly bough fabric" stage though, so I have a long queue to get through. I get bored sewing only one thing at once - which is why I always have a couple of quilting projects on the go as well.

I guess I'm mostly serial with a parallel twist-- I'll often cut out multiple things at once (because cutting out is one of my least favorite things so I just get a bunch over with in one shot), but usually only do machine work on one thing at a time. But when I have handwork (buttons, hems, embellishments) to deal with, or am plotting a clothign refashion and need to rip something apart, I'll often start machine work on the next project while doing handwork on the side.
